the breaking news of Pope John Paul II’s demise changed the whole program. MQM’s
international Secretariat in London immediately terminated all its
organizational activities throughout the world as a gesture of solidarity with
the Christian community as well as to all the peace loving people around the
world. Therefore, since Quaid-e-Tehreek’s speech was also cancelled, the MQM USA
Immediately started calling the families who were expected to attend the
gathering. However, over two hundered people still showed up to hear Quaid’s
speech. The local unit had beautifully decorated a local hall for the said
event. MQM USA’s central organizing committee thanked everyone for attending and
apprised them of the reasons for canceling Quaid’s speech. Later, a minute long
silence in Pope’s memory was observed by the participants, as instructed by
Quaid-e-Teheek Altaf Hussain. MQM USA also cancelled its musical evening
scheduled for the same evening.
