Dr. Farooq Sattar Demands of
US Government in a letter to US Ambassador in Pakistan, under MQM USA
Initiative, to Stop the Deportation
and Arrest of Pakistanis under Deportation
Orders and Grant of TPS in the Wake of Flood Disaster in Pakistan
Communication & Media Cell, MQM USA; New York; October 11, 2010: The Federal
Minister for Overseas Pakistanis Affairs Dr. Farooq Sattar has demanded of the
US Government in a letter written
to the US ambassador in Pakistan Anne Patterson that was delivered to the
ambassador personally by the minister, that in the wake of the recent flood
disaster in Pakistan, the deportation and the arrest of
Pakistanis under the deportation orders should be stopped and all those
Pakistanis should be granted Temporary Protected Status (TPS). The letter says
that at a time when the flood has disrupted the whole
economy of Pakistan, it is apprehended that it will get worse in the coming
days. The letter says that in this situation the deportation of Pakistanis will
be a burden on Pakistan’s economy, and the deportees
will remain in a fix when they will not find any financial stability and future
for them in Pakistan. The federal minister referred to the US policy granting
the Temporary Protected Status (TPS) to those who
cannot return to their native country safely if deported. The minister requested
the Homeland Security Department to take into consideration the said policy,
look into this matter on humanitarian grounds,
and immediately stop the deportation, and release the Pakistanis from detention
centers who are at different stages under deportation orders. Before this, the
member of the Central Organizing Committee
MQM USA Gul Mohammad had met with a group of Pakistani and Pakistani-American
Organizations on this issue and had assured them that MQM USA will take this
matter up to the proper authorities,
and shortly after that the office-bearers of MQM USA had contacted Dr. Farooq
Sattar to take up this matter on priority basis. In the meantime the Central
Organizer Kamal Zafar and the members of the
Central Organizing Committee MQM USA, have extended their gratitude, on behalf
of the Pakistani community in USA to the federal minister for putting this
matter to the US officials, and assured the
members of the Pakistani community that they will always stand to their side
whenever help is needed.
