WASHINGTON DC, TO HELP ALLEVIATE THE HARDSHIPS OF THE TSUNAMI STRICKEN

January 3, 2005 – A delegation of the MQM (USA) comprising of Central
Organizer Ibad Ur Rehman, Central Organizing Committee member Sabih-ul-Islam,
and Washington DC unit committee member Navaid Hussain visited the Embassies of
Sri Lanka and India on a call given by MQM’s Founder and Leader Altaf Hussain to
assist the Tsunami stricken nations in any possible way.
The delegation visited the Embassy of Sri Lanka, where the Sri Lankan Commerical
Minister, Saman Udagedara, warmly received them. Mr. Udagedara was presented
with a condolence letter from MQM’s leader Mr. Altaf Hussain. In order to
financially accommodate the relief efforts in Sri Lanka, the Central Organizer,
Ibad Ur Rehman handed over a $5000 check to the Minister. Mr. Udagedara
greatly appreciated MQM’s assistance in this regard, and applauded MQM Leader
Altaf Hussain’s appeal for help. MQM’s has also written down its condolence
message in the guest book.
Later, the delegation also visited the Embassy of India, where it was warmly
greeted by Mr. Shankar Sharma, First Secretary. During this visit, MQM USA’s
Central Organizing Committee member Sabih-ul-Islam together with Mr. Navaid
Hussain hand delivered a letter of condolence from MQM Leader Mr. Altaf Hussain.
Mr. Sharma wholeheartedly thanked the MQM delegation for their kind words and
generosity. The delegation also assured Mr. Sharma that MQM USA is available to
provide any assistance necessary to help out India in the humanitarian efforts.
