On March 23rd – 2004, the MQM USA Washington DC unit celebrated Pakistan
Resolution Day by attending a cordial flag raising ceremony held at the
Pakistan Embassy in Washington DC. The event started with the Pakistan
Ambassador to the United States, Mr. Ashraf Jehangir Qazi, reading verses
from the Holy Quran followed by statements read on behalf of President
Pervez Musharraf and Prime Minister Zafarullah Jamali.
The event was attended by high ranking Pakistani military officers, United
States military officers, Malaysian Ambassador, Nigerian Ambassador, Indian
Ambassador, and the Chief Guest was U.S Deputy Defense Secretary Paul
Wolfowitz.
Mr. Wolfowitz re-affirmed the mutual and growing ties between the United
States and Pakistan and how both countries were victims of terrorism.
Secretary Wolfowitz also stated that he admired President Pervez Musharraf’s
courageous leadership in helping to nab terrorists on Pakistani soil. Mr.
Wolfowitz also amused the audience when he greeted them in Arabic and used
custom Islamic words to address the crowd.
The gathering was attended by a large number of Pakistanis, Americans, and
other foreign dignitaries. During their conversations with the respected
guests, the MQM USA Washington DC unit in charge Amir Siddiqui and committee
member Navaid Hussain assured that the MQM would continue to play its key
role throughout the world in making Pakistan a strong and prosperous nation.
However, in order to achieve goals set by the founder of the country, the
23rd March 1940 resolution must be implemented with its true letter and
spirit, added the MQM team.
