MQM Washington DC unit celebrates Pakistan Resolution Day by attending a cordial flag raising ceremony at the Pakistan Embassy in Washington DC. (March-24-2004)


On March 23rd – 2004, the MQM USA Washington DC unit celebrated Pakistan Resolution Day by attending a cordial flag raising ceremony held at the Pakistan Embassy in Washington DC. The event started with the Pakistan Ambassador to the United States, Mr. Ashraf Jehangir Qazi, reading verses from the Holy Quran followed by statements read on behalf of President Pervez Musharraf and Prime Minister Zafarullah Jamali.

The event was attended by high ranking Pakistani military officers, United States military officers, Malaysian Ambassador, Nigerian Ambassador, Indian Ambassador, and the Chief Guest was U.S Deputy Defense Secretary Paul Wolfowitz.

Mr. Wolfowitz re-affirmed the mutual and growing ties between the United States and Pakistan and how both countries were victims of terrorism. Secretary Wolfowitz also stated that he admired President Pervez Musharraf’s courageous leadership in helping to nab terrorists on Pakistani soil. Mr. Wolfowitz also amused the audience when he greeted them in Arabic and used custom Islamic words to address the crowd.

The gathering was attended by a large number of Pakistanis, Americans, and other foreign dignitaries. During their conversations with the respected guests, the MQM USA Washington DC unit in charge Amir Siddiqui and committee member Navaid Hussain assured that the MQM would continue to play its key role throughout the world in making Pakistan a strong and prosperous nation. However, in order to achieve goals set by the founder of the country, the 23rd March 1940 resolution must be implemented with its true letter and spirit, added the MQM team.
