Masrur Khan’s Historical Victory.

A grand gathering has been held in Houston by the local
Pakistani-Americans under the banner of Pakistan-American Society of Texas to
honor MQM USA for its efforts and support to Councilman Elect Mr. Masrur Khan in
the city of Houston elections this month. MQM USA’s Central Organizer Mr. Ibad
U. Rehman was greeted by Councilman elect. Mr. Masrur Khan, P.A.S.T’s president
Mr. Saeed Gaddi, P.A.G.H’s president Mr. Ghulam Bombaywala, MQM Houston’s
incharge Syed Najmi, Muslim League’s Representative Mini bhai, President of
Karachi University Alumni, Editors from Pakistan Journal, Pakistan Times,
Pakistan Chronicle and various other individuals and organizations from greater
Houston area who especially gathered to acknowledge MQM’s efforts in setting a
new standard of public service through entering into the main stream politics in
USA.
Councilman Masrur Khan, while speaking at this occasion,
thanked MQM USA for it’s all out support in the city elections. He said that MQM
USA had encouraged him to take this bold step and he decided to run for it when
MQM USA’s Central Organizer offered MQM’s all out support to him while speaking
at a public gathering in Houston several months ago. Masrur Khan further said
that MQM Houston’s incharge Syed Najmi and his team had worked day & night to
achieve the desired results. Masrur Khan elaborated on his affiliation with the
MQM and said that he has been attending MQM’s meetings and gatherings since last
over eight years and always found this organization as most progressive,
energetic and patriotic Pakistani organization in USA.
Pakistan American Society of Texas’s (PAST) president Mr.
Saeed Gaddi welcomed chief guest Ibad U. Rehman and offered his unconditional
support to MQM USA through his organization, newspaper and Radio Show. Mr.
Ghulam Bombaywala, president of Pakistani-Americans of Greater Houston (PAGH)
applauded the efforts made by MQM USA in making Masrur Khan win city seat. He
told the audience that PAGH and MQM are synonymous to each other, as both
believe in tireless services to human beings. Famous pop singer Tehsin Javed,
president of Karachi University Alumni and various other organizations and
individuals expressed their supportive views and congratulated MQM USA in giving
a new dimension to the political approach of the Pakistanis living in USA.
MQM USA’s Central Organizer Ibad U. Rehman thanked all
individuals and organizations for their kind support to MQM’s initiative. He
promised the audience that the MQM USA would support all Pakistani candidates
running for an office in USA irrespective of their cast creed and religion as
long as they qualify on the character and moral criteria set by Quaid-e-Tehrik
Altaf Hussain. Mr. Rehman also stressed upon all organizations present at the
occasion to believe in co-existence and to refrain from throwing mud on each
other. He said MQM is not interested in local inter and intra-organizational politics of Houston
however being an organization of significant influence in Houston’s Pakistan
community, MQM would always be available to mediate between them in order to
resolve their disputes and differences. Central Organizer asked the people to
treat Masrur Khan as a representative of hundreds of thousands of
Pakistani-Americans now and not only as a representative of MQM anymore. He
asked Masrur Khan to stick to his program of curbing the crime and enhancing
city amenities. Mr. Rehman said that if Khan succeeds in delivering what he
promised, MQM would encourage him to re-run for the second term. While
responding to Masrur Khan’s request to Central Organizer to attend his oath
taking ceremony on Jan 02, 2004, Central Organizer promised him that either him
or Dr. Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui would be their to witness this historic moment in
MQM USA’s history. In the end Councilman Masrur Khan held and raised Mr.
Rehman’s hand and made a victory sign for several minutes while the community
was giving standing ovation.
