    NEW YORK: Twitter’s live video-streaming application, Periscope, has hired an editor in chief, Evan Hansen, who says he plans to showcase the best content and help develop the platform.

    Hansen himself revealed his appointment to Periscope, which lets users broadcast live video free of charge from smartphones running Android or Apple iOS software. The videos remain available for 24 hours before disappearing.

    RIYADH: Saudi Arabia’s labour minister is dissatisfied with the level of female employment in the conservative kingdom but their not being allowed to drive is not to blame, he said Tuesday.

    Female Saudi unemployment rose last year to almost 34 percent while the overall jobless rate for Saudis fell to 11.5 percent, according to official figures cited by Jadwa Investment, a local securities firm.

  • Baghdad car bomb against Shia pilgrims kills 14

    BAGHDAD: A car bomb targeting Shia pilgrims killed at least 14 people in southern Baghdad on Monday, security and medical sources said.

    An Iraqi security command said a suicide bomber detonated the explosives-rigged vehicle, while other officials said it was a car bomb.
    At least 14 people were killed and at least 41 others wounded, security and medical officials said.
