Patron MQM USA & Canada Invited at Atlantic Council Event
Communication & Media Cell, MQM USA; Washington DC; February 04, 2010: MQM North America had the honor the other day when the Patron MQM USA & Canada Ibad Rehman was invited at an event organized by Atlantic Council Washington DC where the Spanish Prime Minister Jose Luis Rodriguez Zapatero delivered a major policy address before the Atlantic Council. The Spanish Premierís visit to Washington DC came at the start of Spainís EU presidency. With transatlantic relations a priority of the Spanish presidency, Prime Minister Zapatero presented his thoughts on how the U.S. and EU can work together to address major challenges such as Iranian WMD proliferation, Afghanistan/Pakistan and the global financial crisis, while also developing a post-Copenhagen approach to climate change and re-launching the Middle East peace process. U.S National Security Advisor General James L. Jones introduced Prime Minister Zapatero, following welcoming remarks from Atlantic Council Chairman Senator Chuck Hagel. Frederick Kempe, President and CEO of the Atlantic Council, moderated the session. At the end of the event PM Zapatero had a word with the MQM representative regarding MQM's role in struggle against extremism in Pakistan and its leader Altaf Hussain's tough stance against the religious extremism. MQM's representative conveyed Mr. Altaf Hussain's greetings to the Spanish Prime Minister and congratulated him for assuming the presidency of the European Union. Prime Minister Zapatero expressed his well wishes for the MQM and its leader Mr. Altaf Hussain.
