London, July 18, 2008: The advisor to Prime Minister on Interior Affairs Rehman Malik met MQM Chief Altaf Hussain late Thursday night at the MQM’s International Secretariat in London. Mr. Malik and Mr. Hussain discussed the political and economic problems of the country, as well as the deteriorating law and order situation and the worsening condition in the tribal areas in the three-hour long meeting. Altaf Hussain expressed his grave concern over the critical situation of the country, stating that the terrorist activities in the tribal areas were making the country internally unstable and the constant threats on the borders could prove disastrous for the country. Malik agreed with Hussain over the situation in the tribal areas, stating that the government could tackle the militants. He condemned the ‘Talibanization’ conspiracy and expressed his apprehensions over the condition. Mr. Malik said the government would never yield to terrorists’ pressure and strongly deal with them. They exchanged views on the restoration of judiciary, consolidation of democracy, strengthening of the coalition in Sind and maintenance of order in Karachi. “We will deal with the elements challenging the writ of the state”, he said. Mr. Hussain offer unconditional support to the Government and defense institutions for the safety and security of the country. Mr. Malik thanked MQM chief for agreeing to forge political reconciliation and work for the development and prosperity of the people of Karachi. He expressed gratitude on the speech made by the City Nazim Syed Mustafa Kamal promoting reconciliatory spirit.
