31st YOUM-E-TASEES OF APMSO IN CHICAGO

Communication & Media Cell, MQM USA; Chicago; June 19, 2009: The MQM Chicago Chapter celebrated APMSO’s 31st anniversary of “Yaum-e-Tasees” (The Foundation Day) in Lincolwood, Illinois at the Lincolnwood Community Center on June 14, 2009.  While the event was attended by a large number of people from all walks of life and different political affiliations, this was also attended by the office-bearers of MQM Chicago and MQM USA. The event was also attended by the Senior Vice Coordination, International Relations, MQM, Mohammad Younus and the Patron-in-Chief, MQM North America, Dr. Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui. Dr. Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui said in his address that the journey of APMSO from its humble beginnings in June 11, 1978, at the University of Karachi, led by Altaf Hussain, who later became the voice of the people. Altaf Hussain’s message of “Live And Let The Others Live” was widely appreciated by the people, and the small APMSO, from its origins at the University of Karachi, was then expanded on to nationwide success throughout the state of Pakistan, known as MQM—the Muttahida Qaumi Movement. This loyalty to MQM, by its followers, was demonstrated through the last words of Dr. Siddiqui’s speech: “We will support Altaf Hussain till our last breath, and will continue doing so.” Mohammad Younus, in his address touched upon the issue of the Taliban in Pakistan, using the analogy of the Taliban as a monster, that would devour Pakistan, if not controlled. There was also a moment of silence held for the “shahuda”. The other speakers of the event said in their addresses that APMSO, revolutionized politics in Karachi, and became one of the biggest political parties in Pakistan. MQM raised people’s consciousness about their rights, and their conditions, under the guidance of Altaf Hussain. The MQM Chicago Chapter In-charge thanked all the guests, as well as those who had put in their efforts to improve MQM. Shahid Aleeg and Shehzad Hashmi praised MQM in their poems. At the end, a new Youth Wing was announced, and there was also a children’s tableau, where Senior MQM Worker, Zahid Hussain, handed over the MQM flag to the upcoming Youth Wing members. There was also a short trivia round, with questions related to the history of MQM and Altaf Hussain. The trivia was followed by cake cutting ceremony. The event culminated at the dinner
