MQM USA, Houston Unit rose to its reputation of holding grand congregations when it organized an event, attended by the Pakistani community to the tune of 500-600, in a local hotel, to observe “Yaum e Tashakkur” (The Day of Thanks) for the unprecedented victory of MQM in the last general elections in Pakistan, and to observe The 24th Foundation Day of MQM, simultaneously, last Friday on March 14, 2008. While the event was attended by Nigran e Aala MQM North America Dr. Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui, members Central Organizing Committee MQM USA, Nigraan, Unit In charge, members Houston Unit Committee, workers, supporters and members of general Haq Parast community in Houston, it was also attended by people from cross-section of Pakistani community including doctors, engineers, attorneys, businessman, civil servants, journalists, media representatives, diplomats, and workers from other Pakistan political parties in Houston.
Many people spoke at the occasion including Nigraan e Aala MQM North America Dr. Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui who spoke on the basic themes of “Empowerment For All”, “Freedom”, and “Emancipation”. He also elaborated on “loyalty” and “Allegiance” and said that if all inhabitants of Pakistan are equally loyal to the country and proclaim allegiance with the country then all should also have equal rights too. He insisted that equal rights status can only be achieved through “Empowerment For All” which is the basic demand and slogan of Muttahida Quami Movement. He further said that freedom of choice and freedom of intention, within certain limits, sets the destiny of people and nations and emancipate them from slavery and oppression, and this is what was promised on March 23rd in 1940, and this is exactly what was reincarnated when MQM came into existence on March 18 in 1984 with the promise of restoring human sovereignty, and completing the incomplete freedom through the freedom of choice and intention. He said, in the absence of freedom of choice and intention, the Freedom and Emancipation even with the geographical divisions don’t mean anything.
Dr. Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui also said those who were against the geographical boundaries of Pakistan before the making of Pakistan, unfortunately, became the biggest defenders and guards of these geographical boundaries. Similarly, those elements who were against the ideology of Pakistan, who used to call Pakistan as “Napakistan”, they also, became the biggest supporters of the idea and ideology of Pakistan. This opportunistic behavior of these politicians and the so-called leaders of Pakistan translated into the biggest dilemma of Pakistan which promoted oppression, feudalism and rule of bureaucracy in Pakistan. He said, in the final moments of his address, that changing the old geographical boundaries with the new does not result in Freedom. The Freedom is achieved with the change in the thinking process, when people start accepting other people’ rights, their existence, and recognize their duty of approving “Empowerment For All”.
The event culminated at dinner which preceded the video on the development of Karachi which was watched by the attendees with great enthusiasm.
