MQM HOUSTON CELEBRATES 59TH INDEPENDENCE DAY OF PAKISTAN
MQM Houston unit hosted a dinner to celebrate the 59th Independence Day of Pakistan on August 13, 2006 at Shahnai Banquet Hall in Southwest Houston. MQM’s caretaker for North America Dr. Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui was the chief guest. Among the dignitaries were honorable consulate general of Pakistan Mr. G. R. balouch, honorable city council member Mr. Masroor J. Khan and MQF USA in-charge Mr. A. Huda Khan.
The event was started with the recitation of holy Quran followed by a Dua and Fah-teha for “shuhada-e-Azadi”. MQM Houston youth wing presented a tabloo on famous national song “Dil Dil Pakistan”.
Houston Unit In-Charge, Mohammed Zaheer Bhai, welcomed the guests and thanked all the workers and office bearers for their dedicated work and involvement in social, cultural and political activities over the years. He added that due to our sincere efforts during Katrina and Rita relief efforts last year, MQM Houston unit was recognized by the local government as one of the most vibrant volunteer organization. He introduced the members of the newly formed committees. Joint Unit In-Charge, Maqsood Alam Bhai informed the audience the purpose of MQM Houston Unit and the work & accomplishments of the unit during the year.
MQF in-charge Huda Bhai informed that we have raised significant amount of funds in MQF but still we have long way to go. We have not achieved our target for this year yet but he is confident that Houstonians will come forward and help us in meeting our target for this year. Consular General Mr. G. R. Balouch extended his well wishes and congratulations to the audience on behalf of the government of Pakistan. Mr. Balouch added that all Pakistanis are ambassadors of Pakistan and every movement of ours should reflect our culture, our heritage and our country and we should not be involve in any activities which creates native image of Pakistan.
The city council member Mr. M. J. Khan congratulates the audience on the 59th Independence of Pakistan on the behalf of Mayor of Houston. Councilman further added that the city is very much thankful to the volunteers of MQM Houston Unit who participated in the relief efforts of Katrina evacuees. Chief Guest & MQM USA caretaker, Dr. Khalid M. Siddiqui congratulated all Pakistanis on the 59th Independence Day of Pakistan. He added that celebrating the independence is always good but remembering the mission of Pakistan is more important. One should not forget the basis of the creation (Pakistan) and the reasons behind it.
Dr. Khalid said that India won freedom a day after Pakistan but they are far ahead of Pakistan because Indians eliminated feudalism and capitalism immediately after independence and but unfortunately, this system still existed in Pakistan, causing obstacles in the progress and prosperity of the country “the feudalism, the generals and the capitalists have joined hands to deprive 98 per cent of the population of their constitutional rights, but the time has come for the change. Later, Dr. Siddiqui chaired the meeting with party workers, sympathizers and office bearers.
