(Retiring President Karachi Club)

Garden Grove California: Albeit, the sacred month ended last week, the organizer of the Karachi Club went ahead to commemorate the historic event. This year's event was well attended and approximately over 2000 people had come to enjoy Haleem and to show their respect for this sacred month despite on going war in Iraq.

Ibad Ur Rehman, an immigration lawyer from Washington DC and the Central Organizer of MQM USA especially came to Los Angeles to attend this event. He praised MQM's Senator Babar Khan Ghauri and MQM USA's central member Adnan Naqvi for launching this event six years ago. He commended the outgoing and the incoming Karachi club's committee members for arranging such an organized and historic Haleem program. He also shared with attendees about the upcoming MQM convention in Los Angeles area. The Prime TV of Pakistan and the local News Papers have interviewed MQM's organizer on the recent political issues and about the MQM's activities in USA and abroad.

At the time of my arrival in the Garden Grove Park, a few hundred people had already gathered beneath one of the Redwood Canopied of this park. In this unpredictable April weather, it was slightly windy with some hazy sun and the temperature was in the mid 70s. There were doctors, engineers, lawyers, Laymen and professional, all under one canopy. "We have several social events planned for the future, such as, a forthcoming Mushaira, family picnic, youth programs etc.," Sameen Farooqi, newly elected President of the club informed the crowd. The Aroma of Haleem with all it trimmings and naan, freshly baked in the clay oven, added to the atmosphere. Pervaiz Khan, the master chef of Haleem and his associates, once again earned the praise of the crowd.

The success of Muharram Haleem event, for the last years, owes to the local businesses and many of our volunteers who offered sponsor the event this year. We are thankful to Alnoor Restaurant, Alwatan, Shahnwaz Restaurant, Noorani Restaurant, Nawab Kabana Restaurant for their support.
