Dinner Meeting with Babar Khan Ghauri in LA (July-15-2006)

MQM LA unit arranged a dinner meeting with Pakistan's Federal Minister for Ports and Shipping, Senator Babar Khan Ghauri. The evening began with a welcoming introduction by Wasim Zaidi, the unit in-charge in Los Angeles. Sameen Faruqi, MQM California In-charge, spoke of the accomplishments of Mr. Babar Ghauri as Minister for Ports & Shipping.

Mr. Babar Ghauri, a familiar face to LA community talked about early days of campaign establishing MQM's ideology in the Pakistani households. It was his courage and zest that ignited the vigor in the hearts of those who were against the then regime of Benazir Bhutto and her handpicked authorities. "It was like a one big family" said Mr. Ghauri, reminding everyone that it was common understanding, defiance of oppression and love for Pakistan that prevailed in everyone's heart.

Highlighting his agenda as Minister, Babar Ghauri briefed the audience on various plans and schemes that are in the Government pipeline. He spoke at length on the need for harmony, tolerance and open-mindedness among ranks. Later he answered questions and concerns presented by the audience. He showed interest in resolving issues faced by the people.

Mr. Babar Khan Ghauri acknowledged and recognized most individuals by name as the evening progressed showing respect, affection and regard. After all these were the comrades who supported him while he spent days of self-exile in the city of Los Angeles. The meeting was attended by Kamal Zafar, member Central Organizing Committee, prominent community leaders and activists.
