MQM New York Unit Election Monitoring Cell Reminds The Community Of Election Offices Back Home

The jubilation and enthusiasm was worth watching when workers and supporters of MQM in New York gathered in the Election Monitoring Cell, established by MQM New York Unit to watch the live results of the last General Elections in Pakistan on February 18th, 2008. This Election Monitoring Cell, at Kabab King Restaurant in Jackson Heights, in the heart of the city and the South Asian Community domain, reminded the community of Election Offices of MQM back home and the members of the community were carried away by the nostalgic effects of those virtual feelings and absorbed themselves into raising slogans, clapping, and cheerful shouting. Hundreds of people visited the Election Monitoring Cell of MQM New York and while this was attended by the passersby, and people from other nationalities, this Monitoring Cell was also attended by the workers and supporters of MQM, and journalists, intellectuals, members of the other Pakistani political parties, and families. The main charm of this Election Cell had been, throughout of the day, the full time presence of Nigraan e Aala of MQM North America, Dr. Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui, who remained at the Monitoring Cell from the time when he inaugurated the office at 12:00 pm on February 18th, 2008, till the closure of the monitoring cell at around 2:00 am in the morning of Tuesday February 19th, 2008. During this whole time of his presence at the monitoring cell Dr. Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui continuously gave his comments on the results of the Elections and current Pakistani political situation in the perspective of the results of the last elections. Those who attended the Election Monitoring Cell in New York were served with refreshment , tea, and sweets as gesture of happiness.
